Part 1 - Self Acceptance Skills

Chapter 6 - THINK OF YOURSELF

'Yes, do come', replied Anna instantly when her Aunt May asked to come and stay. Anna didn't stop to think till she got off the phone, Aunt May usually stayed several weeks and, much as she loved her, it would be awkward. 'I wish I hadn't agreed right away,' thought Anna, 'I must learn to think before I say Yes'.

Anna's instant reaction is lopsided 'selfless thinking' — thinking only of the request and forgetting about herself. Had she thought of herself as well, she would have replied 'I'd love you to come but I'll be very busy next month. You could come now and stay just one week, or come later and stay longer'.

Now the visit would mean extra rush and tension instead of relaxed enjoyment. Anna and Aunt May would both miss out, all because Anna did not stop to think, 'It suits her to come now. Does it suit me too?'
