Part 1 - Self Acceptance Skills

Chapter 3 - ACCEPT YOURSELF

Are you nervous about speaking out in front of people? Do you get embarrassed? Do you feel yourself blush and your hands sweat? 'What will they think of me?' you worry. Maybe you even let your shyness silence you.

All that worry is brought on by the Scales of Worth mixing up what you do and who you are and then weighing you down.

The scales fill your head with worries, doubts and fears:

'What if I make a fool of myself? What if they think I'm an idiot? I'll be worth less!' Or 'What if they don't agree with me? What if they don't like me? I'll be worth less!' Your real worry is not about what you do, it's about losing worth. Be rid of the Scales of Worth forever — throw them out and in their place put Self-Acceptance.

Self-Acceptance has you looking at the facts and thinking logically. True, you may say the wrong thing — perhaps your words came out wrongly or weren't to the point. But that can't turn you into a fool or an idiot or anything else, because you are still you. True, others may not agree with your opinion or like what you say or even like you. They're entitled to their opinions just as you're entitled to yours. But you are still you and you can survive quite comfortably with those facts.

Let's turn to self-acceptance.

What is self-acceptance?

Sell-acceptance is accepting totally the fact that 'I am Me'.

Look at it this way. That unique being you is made up of all these aspects: your appearance, hobbies and interests, likes and dislikes, work, age, ambitions, hopes and fears, goals and ideals, thoughts and moods, feelings and emotions, all your character traits, abilities and aptitudes, beliefs and values, needs and desires, habits, sexuality, spiritual self. You are also made up of your roles: you are a son or daughter, friend, partner, parent, employee, colleague, customer, and more.
